Platforms at Holten station widened using retaining walls
As passenger numbers from and to Holten station were increasing, the platforms needed to be widened. Bosch Beton retaining walls were used for this. Our retaining walls were also used for the newly constructed P+R. A section of the walls was later given a RAL colour and an anti-graffiti coating.
Platform widening
The number of people travelling by train is increasing and this also affected the relatively small NS station in Holten, Overijssel. The station needed upgrading to handle the increasing flow of passengers. Retaining walls were used to widen the platforms to increase station capacity and enable more people to use the station.
Earth retention system
More passengers also means an increase in traffic to the station. The retaining walls were used as an earth retention system next to the railway at the adjacent new P+R site. The retaining walls also serve as an earth retention system along the adjacent cafe terrace. A section of the retaining walls was later given a RAL colour and an anti-graffiti coating.
Over 300 metres of retaining walls were used for this project, varying from 1.25 to 2 metres in height.
Placement
As the project is located along the railway, it was realised according to strict schedules and train service interruptions. After all, the railway cannot be closed for longer than the specified period, which is why Bosch Beton delivered the retaining walls just in time. After good consultation with Bosch Beton, the client placed the retaining walls itself, using a special retaining wall clamp.
Standardised Platforms
Bosch Beton was also involved in the platform widening at Hollandsche Rading station. This was the first station to be adapted as part of ProRail’s major station contract in 2021. The purpose of this project is to adapt all Dutch platforms to the same platform height, ensuring that disabled travellers can travel independently by train.
