Height difference at Clemens Cornielje wildlife crossing

The Province of Gelderland is investing in so-called defragmentation measures to improve connections between nature reserves. These measures are mainly intended to help struggling animal species. Van Spijker Infrabouw BV from Meppel constructed two new wildlife crossings at Nieuw Milligen and Hoog Soeren. Bosch Beton supplied retaining walls for the Clemens Cornielje wildlife crossing.

The two new wildlife crossings over the N302 and the N344 enable animals to move from one side of the nature reserve to the other. For the construction of the Clemens Cornielje wildlife crossing over the N302, Bosch Beton supplied approximately 130 metres of retaining walls, including connections on the abutments and customised bevelling. The walls differ in height from 1.25 to 3 metres.

Durable solution

We used our L retaining walls for this project as an alternative to poured walls on site. These walls ensure a durable structure that can cope with height differences, which was necessary for this project. We contributed our ideas on the structure from the start, including associated drawings and, together, we devised a perfect solution.

Connecting nature

The two wildlife crossings, including Clemens Cornielje, opened on 5 October 2020. These reconnect North and South Veluwe and animals can now migrate safely across their habitat. There are now thirteen wildlife crossings in Gelderland.
