Retaining walls form a safe machinery storage area in Belgium

The Aertssen Group headquarters are located in the port of Antwerp, on Waasland logistics park. This prestigious family company first started using its brand-new premises for its Transport & Logistics division in late 2020. They wanted to screen off one of their storage areas and approached Bosch Beton to create high-quality terrain fencing for their extremely valuable stock.

Prestigious family company

With over 1,200 employees, Aertssen is one of Belgium’s largest family companies and employers. Over some 60 years, this company has expanded to become an international infra, construction crane, transport and trade sector player. Aertssen is involved in construction projects across the world, wherever the biggest and most innovative construction machinery is needed. And with its own Training Center and Green Energy programme, Aertssen is also one of the most innovative companies. It’s not without reason that they were awarded the Company of the Year award by the Flemish Prime Minister in 2021.

Machinery security

The company’s size means Aertssen has access to a huge fleet of machinery. Their infra division realised a new storage area at the rear of the head office in Verrebroek in 2022. They contacted Bosch Beton to design sturdy terrain fencing for secure storage of their extremely costly machinery. Following extensive advice at the construction site, Aertssen decided to invest in over 370 metres of retaining wall as terrain fencing and to protect the machinery.

The terrain fencing was largely realised using L175HAK elements of 4 metres in length. As the total of 96 elements could be placed by clamp, this project’s overall construction time was exceptionally short, saving valuable working hours and enabling the terrain to be put into operation very quickly. As well as a fixed angle solution in the form of a CORNER L175, some elements were also mitred to achieve angles of 136, 153 and 161 degrees respectively. Bosch Beton took care of both the transport and placement using a truck-mounted crane. After placement of the retaining walls, another company installed fencing on top of the walls.

L retaining walls for civil engineering applications

The Bosch Beton L retaining wall with heel was developed especially for medium load applications in civil engineering. L retaining wall corner elements with heel are also available for corner solutions. Our retaining walls have the necessary certification and also comply with NEN construction standards within KOMO Product certification. With a design service life of at least fifty years, our standard retaining walls are also a sustainable solution.
