Bosch Beton collaborates with FLC for the Fehmarnbelt project

The Fehmarnbelt link is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects that will enable a shortcut between Denmark and Germany. An 18-kilometer-long tunnel is being constructed that will house both a freeway and a railroad line. The contractor Fehmarn Link Contractors (FLC) has chosen Bosch Beton to supply the concrete barriers.

Challenging project

The Fehmarnbelt tunnel will connect the German island of Fehmarn and the Danish Island of Lolland starting in 2029 to provide a faster and safer connection between Scandinavia and Europe. The Fehmarnbelt project is constructed by three international contractor consortia: FLC, FBC and FSC. The tunnel will be constructed from 89 prefabricated concrete elements placed at a depth of up to 40 meters below the seabed. This will make this tunnel the world’s longest immersed tunnel and reduce travel time between the German and Danish coasts to ten minutes by car and seven minutes by train.

The parties

FLC is responsible for constructing the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, the portal buildings on both sides of the Fehmarnbelt, and the factory that casts the tunnel elements. FLC is a joint venture between VINCI Constructions Grands Projets  (France),  Aarsleff  (Denmark), Max Bögl Stiftung & CO KG (Germany), BAM Infra B.V (Holland), BAM International B.V  (Holland), Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG (Germany), Solétanche-Bachy International S.A.S  (France), CFE SA (Belgium), Dredging International NV (Belgium).

Special barriers

Bosch Beton will supply the concrete barriers for the realization of this tunnel; these function as wall protection barriers and will be placed along the two lanes in the tunnel. The engineering departments designed the barriers especially for this project, and Bosch Beton will supply a total of 72 kilometers of these barriers for this special project. The contractor FLC decided to choose for our barriers because of one of the important pillars in the design of the tunnel; the safety of the tunnel’s users. To guarantee their safety the barriers must meet high technical specifications and we are able to live up to them because of our ability to offer costumised concrete mix designs.

We as Bosch Beton are proud to be part of this large-scale project and to enter into cooperation with these renowned parties, in which the Dutch strength comes to the surface. It feels like a reward for our sustainable efforts and motivates us to keep moving forward in this.
