Retaining walls provide maximum storage capacity for Bruil family business
The Bruil family business in Geertruidenberg, the Netherlands, produces high-quality mortars and prefab concrete elements for the residential and non-residential construction sector. To ensure they can store their raw materials safely and efficiently, Bosch Beton installed several hundred metres of retaining walls, over four metres high, on Bruil’s premises.
Renovated storage capacity
The existing walls on the Bruil production site in Geertruidenberg were obsolete and no longer met the requirements of this concrete producer. To make room for new storage bunkers, Bosch Beton, together with the Van de Stroet construction company dismantled the old walls. Following the demolition work, the substrate was prepared to create a solid foundation on which to place the new retaining walls.
Heavily reinforced
LA-V retaining walls, as well as TWA retaining walls were used for this project. Both retaining walls have a net height of four metres and are capable of withstanding high compressive and impact forces, making them ideally suited for storing large quantities of sand and gravel. Bruil settled on these heavy retaining walls based on their desire to be able to also store their coarse aggregates at a steep slope. This is possible because the TWA retaining walls are able to absorb heavy loads on both sides.
Efficient storage and implementation
To disrupt Bruil’s production as little as possible, the new storage sections were assembled during the construction holiday in the Netherlands. During assembly, weather conditions were far from optimal. However, by selecting a specific top layer and taking additional steps to prepare the substrate, the assembly of the retaining walls could be completed without interruption in spite of the rain. The use of a rotating suction cap furthermore reduced placement time, which enabled the plant to quickly resume production.
