Construction of new 26,000 m2 trailer parking in Genk
Bosch Beton, in cooperation with Van Loo Projects, has supplied over 900 metres of retaining walls for the construction of a trailer parking in the town of Genk in Belgium. Under contract to Genk Green Logistics, the shunting tracks of the former Ford plant were transformed, thus elevating the site’s logistics capacity to a higher level.
XXL Logistics development
Genk Green Logistics is a sustainable redevelopment project to transform the premises of the old Ford plant in Genk. The construction of this logistics and semi-industrial site is a large-scale undertaking that, with a surface area of 250,000 m2, is expected to become a premier location for the growing e-commerce sector. Aside from its large scale, multi-modal access to the site makes it an interesting location for distribution and logistics companies; the site is located near the railway, waterways and various motorways.
Transformation of shunting tracks
The trailer parking was constructed by Van Loo Projects and Bosch Beton, and is crucial to the operation of Genk Green Logistics. The companies located on the site are primarily focused on water-based and railway-based transport, although the last segment must be completed by road. Initially, the terrain where the trailer parking has been constructed was located four metres lower. With the help of retaining walls totalling 930 metres in length and 100,000 tonnes of earth the site was raised. Bosch Beton provided 3-metre-high L-retaining walls with heel for this project, which were placed with the help of a truck-mounted crane.
Logistics success
It took just one day to install a total length of 350 metres of retaining walls. Bosch Beton’s combination of large inventories and production capacity, and the meticulous oversight at the construction site ensured an efficient process. The thorough preparation of the subgrade by Van Loo Projects played a key role in the smooth implementation of the work. By adhering to a tight schedule, the entire construction of the trailer parking was completed in just four months’ time, as a result of which Van Loo Projects was able to deliver this project on time.
