Mixed farm ready for expanding livestock herd by installing new silage clamps
To be able to realise their future plans, the Siebenaller family in Luxembourg has expanded its roughage storage facility. Bosch Beton has installed three new silage clamps to replace the existing roughage storage facility at the farm. This investment is essential for the growth of this mixed farm, since the dairy branch is expected to double in size over the coming years.
Agriculture and livestock farming hand in hand
The mixed farm rests on three pillars: fattening pigs, arable farming and dairy cattle. The farm was founded in 1850 with less than 5 hectares in land and is located at the edge of a small village in the north of Luxembourg. The farm has since grown to 170 hectares arable land and 45 hectares grassland. Each day, the fourth generation of the Siebenaller family takes care of 2,000 fattening pigs and 60 dairy cows at the farm.
Building for the future
The farm’s dairy branch is expected to grow considerably over the coming years. In 2026, construction will be started on a new dairy barn, whereby milk production will be doubled with the help of two milking robots. To make this expansion possible a new roughage storage facility is needed. This is why the family decided to completely replace the existing roughage storage facility and to install another two silage clamps in the near future.
Custom solution for efficient feed storage
The family contacted Bosch Beton to replace the existing roughage storage facility. Due to the elaborate product portfolio and the advice provided by our sales consultant, they were able to configure the silage clamps exactly as they had envisaged. The silage clamps were ultimately constructed in two phases, using 250-cm-high retaining wall elements and U-shaped retaining walls, with stairs in the middle. This way, two 36-metre silos and one 40-metre silo were constructed, which is consistent with the broader investment strategy to prepare the family for a gradual transition to the fifth generation.
