Silage clamps a key step in the transformation of the Vorarlberg’s family farm
To modernise their family farm, Alexander Marte started with the basics: the storage of roughage. Bosch Beton has built three silage clamps at the family Marte’s farm in Koblach, Austria, to replace the farm’s silage bales. Thanks to this transformation the farm can now provide its growing number of cows with high-quality feed.
Dairy cattle farming and breeding tradition
The Marte farm is located in Vorarlberg on the edge of Koblach, a small municipality in Austria. The traditional family business has been at its current location since 1976 and is currently run by the parents and their son, with active support from the two brothers and a cousin. The family specialises in raising Holstein cows and has 45 dairy cows. In addition to the dairy cows, they also have a large number of offspring and every year they trade a number of cows.
Acquiring inspiration for the future
A long-term family dream had been to construct a new, modern and animal-friendly dairy barn. To acquire inspiration for this future goal, they visited the St. Georgshof Open Day in the town of Bad Waldsee in Germany. During their visit they saw the Bosch Beton silage clamp for the first time. Several years later, when the family decided to construct a new silage clamp they requested a quote using the online silage clamp configurator.
Investing in growth
Following in-depth advice provided by our sales consultant, the ambitious family decided to have three 44-metre-long silage clamps with T walls constructed. Prior to construction, the substrate was thoroughly prepared by Andreas Lins Erdbewegung in Fraxern. The original plan called for only two chambers to be constructed, but to avoid having to construct an additional silage clamp in two years’ time, the design was adjusted. It was decided to install a small 75-cm-high wall at the back that allows tractors to easily drive across it. With this large roughage storage space, the family is prepared for the future, since they plan to expand their livestock herd.
